“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:4-7
There are no troubles or “unprecedented times” that can outmatch God’s peace. These words from our Creator remind us that we have not been left alone in the world. He is near. He hears our prayers. He enables us to rejoice. His peace is so great and powerful that it is beyond understanding, but not beyond knowing. He sees all this world, from the whispers in secret to the movement of nations. There are no “unprecedented times” or surprises to God. The Inventor of time is still sovereign over it.
So what, if anything, guards my mind and heart today? These verses are an invitation and a challenge. A challenge to know more of the peace of God and an invitation with the house key. It’s as if He saying, Come into my peace, and here is the key to unlock it: rejoice, pray, remember I am near.
