Sunday Song: Peace and Rest

One of the biggest mercies in a believer’s life is that whatever trial or question arises, the answer is always Christ and his invitation to “come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” By yoking with him, we find rest for our souls. (Matthew 11)

Peace, Perfect Peace by Edward H. Bickersteth, Jr. 1875

  1. Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

  2. Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

  3. Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus’ bosom naught but calm is found.

  4. Peace, perfect peace, ’mid suffering’s sharpest throes?
The sympathy of Jesus breathes repose.

  5. Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.

  6. Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

  7. Peace, perfect peace, death shad’wing us and ours?
Jesus has vanquished death and all its pow’rs.

  8. It is enough: earth’s struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus calls us to Heav’n’s perfect peace.

Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

About Katiehttps://thoughtsong.wordpress.comI like to dabble in writing out thoughts on scripture and life events.  Music, to me, is a dear friend, the structure that organizes my thoughts, and the feelings of my heart. Most of my time, however, is spent Teaching and Homemaking (especially trying to create hygge and live as a gluten-free baker). Take all these things away and I still have my true identity: I'm a sinner saved by grace and who dearly loves the Savior who first loved her. And that's really all that matters.
