Assurance for Monday

"How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God." Psalm 139:17 Divine omniscience affords no comfort to the ungodly mind, but to the child of God it overflows with consolation. God is always thinking upon us, never turns aside his mind from us, has us always before his eyes; and this is precisely as… Continue reading Assurance for Monday

Faith and Love

True love and faith do not come from beholding with human eyes, but the miraculous heart-work of the Lord. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. This miraculous faith and love produces joy that is full of the goodness and greatness - the very glory - of God. This joy is so… Continue reading Faith and Love

To love and good works

"Look Miss W. I put the encouragement up on the board so that everyone would know to do their best job today." -G, 5th grade I smiled at his sweet sincerity and helpfulness. I was also a little disconcerted. Had he known that Hebrews 19:24 was that morning's "verse of the day" on my Bible… Continue reading To love and good works

Look… Continue reading Trust, Rejoice, and Sing: A verse for the New Year

This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing; Haste, haste, to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. 2. Why lies He in such… Continue reading What Child is This: a song for Christmas

Teacher Seeking Approval

Sometimes, in the midst of the hurry, the pressures, and worries of this time in the semester, I forget that those things are not the sum of my life, or even the sum of my present circumstances. I have to stop and remind myself that this person’s approval may be pressing, that activity may be urgent, this work may be threatening to consume my time, but that is not all of my reality. The tyranny of the urgent will always be there, but there is always more.

A Good Day

So I rest in this: “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). No longer is a good day one in which I wake up well-rested. A good day is one in which I can look back at the end of it and see God’s… Continue reading A Good Day
