Psalm 34:2-3

My soul makes its boast in the LORD;

let the humble hear and be glad. Ps. 34:2

Not a boast in my own actions, nor in my relationships, nor my thoughts.  I cannot take a breath except that the LORD gives it.  I make a plan, but cannot see it through unless the LORD wills it.  All my endeavors and thoughts would crumble as ash without the sustaining blessing of the LORD.  When my boast is in the LORD, then, disappointment does not crush my spirit beyond recovery when I don’t achieve what I think my pride deserves.  Nor should I anxiously hurry through life focused on my own goals and achievements.  Rather, modelling the psalmist, God’s glory becomes my pursuit.  God’s glory is a wonderful refuge for a humble spirit.  Then, the humble children of God can rejoice together:

Oh magnify the LORD with me,

and let us exalt His Name together!  Ps. 34:3

There is no sweeter fellowship than one joined and held together in the LORD that is focused on His goodness.
