Tuesday Song: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Tuesday looking forward to Easter: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross “No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life… Continue reading Tuesday Song: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Palm Sunday Song: Fairest Lord Jesus

“This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’  The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed… Continue reading Palm Sunday Song: Fairest Lord Jesus

Songs of Hope and Peace: the Sure and Steady Anchor

Trouble is guaranteed in this life, but what a comfort that we need not go through this life without the peace of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He made a way for the disciples’ peace, speaking purposefully to them, and so He speaks purposefully to us through His Scripture. Even in the midst of trouble and great grief, the time and testimony of fellow believers prove that the peace of Christ emboldens Christians to take heart and even sing. Perhaps that is one reason I love both of these songs so much. ‘It is Well’ is one of the songs I would play for my grandma while she lay in bed with cancer. This song was born out of comfort in grief and has in turn comforted so many like me. The second song, ‘Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor’ speaks of the hope He gives in salvation. We hope as those who already know the answer, yes, He has, and, yes, He will.

With broad shoulders, with omnipotence as his strength, he says “ My child, roll thy burden upon thy God.” Blessed privilege, dare I neglect… Continue reading Burdens and luxurious love

To the sky

By all appearances, things were not going well for David when he wrote this Psalm. He in wartime, and acknowledges that God no longer goes out with his army, as if He has rejected them (v. 11). Satisfying Loving-kindness and Monday Mornings

He is more than able to do it. His love is never-ending and never failing. His love is fully able to satisfy my needs and desires, because, however large those desires seem, they are small compared to him. Today is a Monday, sure. Even so it is a day. Therefore it is a day to… Continue reading Satisfying Loving-kindness and Monday Mornings

Fix your eyes on Jesus

“Let us run with endurance the race...” Having thrown out sin and the weight of unwise things, we must continue. The race will not be easy, therefore it calls for strength and patience and the willingness to last. How much am I hindered because I want ease or comfort or sin more than embracing the… Continue reading Fix your eyes on Jesus
